Jean Morkel’s story (as written by his wife, Louise):
“Today as Jean thrives, Louise’s heartfelt gratitude echoes, a testament to the transformative power of love and the indomitable human spirit.”
Louise Morkel, the devoted wife of Jean, narrates a poignant journey marked by the profound gift of a bone marrow stem cell transplant, an act of absolute selfless love. Jean’s battle commenced when he was diagnosed with Stage IV Myelofibrosis, a rare bone marrow cancer. Amidst the daunting treatments and hospital stays, hope flickered as a suitable donor was sought globally and eventually found in the UK – a lifeline for Jean. Jean finally received his transplant on the 5th of September 2018 after months of waiting for a suitable donor. The post-transplant journey was not without trials and tribulations as Graft vs Host disease set in bringing its own hardships. Through the painstaking recovery, glimpses of hope emerged, reaffirming the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Today as Jean thrives, Louise’s heartfelt gratitude echoes, a testament to the transformative power of love and the indomitable human spirit.
